Description
The Smart Sim Randomizer is an intelligent automation framework for The Sims 4 that assigns traits, preferences, and other Sim attributes to both active Sims and NPCs. Powered by the independent Smart Core Script framework, it goes far beyond simple randomization by analyzing a Sim’s existing personality, appearance, identity, occult status, life state, skills, personal history, and supported mod content before making each decision. The result is a world filled with Sims whose personalities feel coherent, believable, and unique.
Configuration
The entire mod can be configured directly in-game through an intuitive user interface—no file editing or game restarts required. Every supported category can be configured independently, giving you complete control over how automatic randomization behaves.
Smart Sim Randomizer provides four independent layers of control:
- Event Triggers: Decide when automatic randomization is performed, for example when Sims spawn or age up.
- Randomization Scope: Configure which Sims are affected by every supported category independently, including the Active Household, Unplayed NPCs, All NPCs, All Sims, or Disabled.
- Custom Trait Limits: Define how many traits or preferences can be assigned for every supported category and age group.*
- Individual Exclusions: Exclude specific Sims from automatic randomization without changing your global settings.
All configuration is stored inside the current save folder, allowing every save game to maintain its own independent setup. Advanced users can also edit the generated configuration files manually if they prefer.
* Custom Trait Limits are currently available as an optional Early Access Add-on and are planned to become part of the core mod in a future update.
The Smart Logic
Unlike traditional randomizers that simply roll the dice, Smart Sim Randomizer evaluates existing gameplay data before assigning new traits or preferences. Every decision is based on weighted probabilities, allowing Sims to develop personalities that feel natural instead of completely random.
The framework considers personality traits, appearance, occult type, life state, skills, relationships, personal history, and many other gameplay systems. It also supports an ever-growing collection of community mods, allowing custom traits and preferences to participate in the same intelligent decision-making process.
Logical relationships between different gameplay systems are automatically recognized. A Creative Sim is more likely to enjoy painting, while a Snob is less likely to appreciate cheap décor. Romantic Sims tend to enjoy romantic music and romantic movies, Sims who dislike cooking will often dislike baking as well, and Sims who prefer the color red are also more likely to choose a red umbrella.
The framework also understands many gameplay-specific relationships. Vampires naturally gravitate toward darker colors and avoid sunny activities, Mermaids have a higher chance of enjoying rain and water-related activities, and Ghosts can even receive different randomization results depending on their cause of death.
Rather than relying on fixed rules, Smart Sim Randomizer continuously combines all available information to produce believable results across both the base game and supported community mods.
Supported Systems
When enabled, Smart Sim Randomizer can intelligently manage a wide variety of gameplay systems.
EA Game Systems
- Likes & Dislikes: Activities, Colors, Music Genres, Décor, Fashion, Characteristics, Communication Topics, and more.
- Turn-Ons & Turn-Offs: Hair Color, Outfit Color, Fashion Styles, Characteristics, Romance Styles, Way of Life, and more.
- Sim Attributes: Personality-related systems that extend beyond traditional traits.
- Standalone Traits: Individual visible and hidden gameplay traits that are not part of larger preference categories, including Weather Preferences, Favorite Movie Genres, Political Positions, Umbrella Choices, Utensil Preferences, Mayonnaise Preference, Character Values, Childhood Phases, Child Confidence, Fears, Infant Quirks, Baby Feeding Preferences, Infant Food Preferences, Carrier Preferences, and more.
Community Mod Integrations
Smart Sim Randomizer features built-in compatibility with popular community mods, allowing their custom systems to become part of the same intelligent randomization process.
- ChippedSim’s Animal Preferences and Pet Characteristics.
- Chingyu’s Age Groups.
- Chingyu’s Holiday Tradition Preferences.
- Chingyu’s Lunar Preferences.
- Chingyu’s Motives, Moods, and Sims Qualities.
- Chingyu’s Strengths & Weaknesses.
- Kuttoe’s Pizza Preferences.
- SpinningPlumbobs’ Occult Types.
- tyjokr’s Custom Turn-Ons & Turn-Offs (standalone version recommended).
- tyjokr’s Tribes.
- WickedWhims’ Wicked Attributes.
Support goes beyond simply recognizing these mods. Smart Sim Randomizer also understands logical relationships between many of their systems. For example, Attraction Tribes are influenced by body preferences, and pet preferences from ChippedSim’s Paws and Claws mod are fully restored and extended with support for the new Pet Characteristics preferences.
Note: For tyjokr’s Custom Turn-Ons & Turn-Offs, only the standalone version is fully compatible. The override version replaces EA traits while keeping the same IDs, which may lead to unexpected randomization results.
Manual Control
Although Smart Sim Randomizer is primarily designed for automation, every supported system can also be used manually.
Access the Smart Sim Randomizer menu on any Sim via Shift + Click to:
- Run Full Randomization across all enabled categories.
- Randomize preference groups such as Likes & Dislikes, Attraction Preferences, or Sim Attributes.
- Randomize individual visible and hidden gameplay traits such as Fears.
- Generate University Degrees, either with or without the required skills.
- Exclude or re-enable individual Sims for automatic randomization without changing the global configuration.
Note: Manual randomization ignores configured trait limits by design (except for Run Full Randomization), allowing you to freely add or reroll traits without being restricted by the automatic randomization settings.
